10 Healthy Habits To Adopt To Improve Your Wellbeing

__ We move about our day completing everything on our to-do list, but still do not feel fulfilled. Why? Because very often, we forget to put ourselves on that checklist. Each one of us is facing burnout sometimes and yet ignoring the signs. There is absolutely nothing wrong in taking some time out to do things that improve your health, mind and overall wellbeing. If you don_t take care of yourself first, how will you be able to take care of someone else? Self- care is a term that is mostly associated with a pamper routine, but it_s much more than that. Self- care is taking the time out to take care of yourself- mind, body and spirit. It can be anything. Painting can be self-care, writing can be self-care, even playing a game of sudoku can be self-care.

__ However busy you might be, try to make it a point to do these small things to live your best life. If you do these regularly, it will become habitual. But, let_s forget about making this a resolution or a goal but instead making it a way of life. Once you start doing these things, you will be happier and much more productive.

  1. Drink plenty of water

__ Instead of reaching for your cup of coffee or tea first thing in the morning, drink a glass of water. Then drink a glass of water every one hour to keep yourself hydrated throughout the day. Doing this will keep your energy levels up and you_ll be in a better mood.

  1. Read

__ Reading stimulates your brain and calms the mind. It makes you smarter in general, and keeps you sharp as you age. It can also reduce stress, since it distracts your mind from everything going on around you. Even if you_re not someone whos reads a lot, try and get yourself to read at least two pages everyday, trust me you_ll never regret it.

  1. Sleep well

__ If you aren_t getting enough sleep, chances are you are always tired and exhausted and not working at your best. Getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep in a day is essential, your body needs the time to recover. After a certain period of time your productivity will drop and there will be a lack of focus. Instead, let your body and mind recharge.

  1. Exercise

__ Exercise can do wonderful things to us. It will keep you healthy and make you stronger. Even if you work at a desk all day make it a habit to take breaks and move around. Staring at a screen the whole day has serious effects on your body. Try and exercise everyday, even if it_s just walking to your destination.

  1. Rest

__ Many people exercise vigorously everyday but sometimes your body needs a break. Listen to your body, if there_s a day when you don_t feel too well, it is okay to rest it out. Like I said, small movements like walking around or taking the stairs in your everyday life can also be your exercise for the day you can_t do a full fitness regime.

  1. Wake up early

When you wake up early, you can give yourself some me time. You don_t have to rush and do things, and can start your day peacefully. Maybe you want to work on your dream job, or just want to spend some alone time. Mornings are the best for this because your mind is refreshed after a good night_s sleep and you_re not exhausted after an entire day of hard work. People also notice that when they wake up earlier, they are more productive throughout the day.

  1. Meditate

__ It is said that practising meditation everyday increases daily experiences of positive emotions. People who have stressful professions in particular should definitely practise meditation. It is also very effective for individuals who struggle with anxiety. The reason why this works is because it really helps you connect with your inner self and clears your mind.

  1. Hobbies

__ Just like reading distracts us from the many things going on around us, there are countless other activities that can help us destress. Having a hobby that you enjoy can increase your happiness. It gives you a break from the day to day chores and work routine. Hobbies could be really anything - like playing an instrument, sports activities or even cooking!

  1. Unplug from electronics and social media

__ There was a time when phones and laptops did not exist. Yet, life moved on pretty perfectly. Of course they make communication so much easier and gets work done faster, but our generation has become addicted to our screens. Scrolling through social media is another really addictive problem all of us are guilty of. These platforms have their positives, but they can also impact us negatively. Let_s all try to keep our phones away from us for a while in the day.

  1. Practise gratitude

We always think about the things we don_t have or how bad our day went. All of this only contributes to negative emotions that make us feel low. Replace this mindset with one that appreciates what you have. At the end of the day, think about three things that you_re grateful for that happened that day. Practising gratitude changes your perspective from scarcity to abundance and thus makes you much more happier.

__ Try and practise these everyday in your life and you will be a much happier, content person. Also, this doesn_t mean you have to always be doing something. If you_ve been working non-stop and haven_t given yourself a break, take a day off and do what you feel like. Binge watch your favourite shows without any guilt or catch up on lost sleep if you have to. At the end of the day, do what makes you feel good, long-term.
